Beautiful Day for Some Landscaping

Hello All,

This is Jason writing once again. As you may have noticed, Thursday (05/07/2015) was a gorgeous day to be outside. So it is quite fortunate for us here at the Whaley House that part of our job includes working on the grounds outside. The project of the day was to plant two crab apple trees.

When you’re a rock star you can just pull pieces of sod out of the ground!

You never know what you'll find when digging in front of an old house! Gardening committee member, Larry, found a very old nail!

We planted the trees one on each side of the sidewalk leading up to the front door of the house.

The globes will continue to fill out and grow with time.

Voila!

The trees are roughly 5 1/2 feet tall, trimmed to a lovely globe shape at the tops. They both have beautiful pink blossoms, which will soon turn into the crab apples. The nice thing about the fruit on these trees is that it does not drop, so there will not be a mess of crab apples to clean off of the sidewalk and lawn. As for what happens to the fruit on the trees, birds love it and will be able to feed off of it even after the weather turns cold. So not only do we get two beautiful trees, we are also encouraging local wildlife to come visit the house. I would also encourage all of you to visit, both to check out our new trees and have a tour while you’re here.

Hope to see you soon,

Jason
