This summer the Whaley House will feature its new exhibit, “Flint in Photos.” This exhibit will, hopefully, be one unlike the others you’ve seen at museums and galleries. We are not providing the materials and telling you what’s important, but you are!
This grassroots exhibit will feature items submitted by members of the community. What do you love about Flint? What memories do you have? Is it a picture of your friend’s car in last year’s Back to the Bricks or is it of your great grandparents standing outside of their business? Do you have photos passed down from the Sit-Down Strike or one of the floods that covered Saginaw Street? Where do you like to hang out? What businesses do you miss?
I believe that it’s important, as a cultural institution, to look outward for inspiration, to truly be a resource of the community. So please share your stories and help us build an exhibit built by the people of the city and for the people of the Flint.
If you any photos you would like to share with the Whaley House for the exhibit please email a scanned copy to firstname.lastname@example.org or mail a photocopy to 624 E. Kearsley St. Flint, MI 48503. If you have no way to scan or copy the photo feel free to set up an appointment to bring your photo in and we can do that for you! Please do not send originals, for we will not be responsible for returning them after the exhibit.
