This summer the Whaley Historic House Museum will be featuring a very special summer exhibit!
Our exhibit, “Flint in Photos” will place the spotlight back on the city of Flint and its vibrant past. I hope to show off everything Flint has gone through; its successes and its setbacks, its citizens and its iconic buildings will all be on display for visitors to see! Hopefully…
Here at the museum we have some images that we hope to spend time identifying, but we need more. So, if you have photos that you would like to share with us, please do! You can either mail us a copy, email us a scan, or stop by and we can scan it here. We only ask that you identify it if you can! We would like to remind those who give pictures that space is limited, however. We all have wonderful treasures that we want to share and see on display, but please do not take offense if your image does not end up in the exhibit. We will keep the copy and hopefully be able to use it in the future.
My goal is for the people of Flint to help create this exhibit. It’s your city and the exhibit is for you. We want all perspectives from all periods of time. If you have pictures or even sketches from the 1800s, that would be amazing to share! And we also want to include very recent images of Flint. The logistics of the exhibit will be determined by the pictures we have, so it may be set up like a timeline winding through the Whaley House, or we may take a more thematic approach. You’ll have to wait and see!
You can mail copies of photos to 624 E. Kearsley St. Flint, MI 48503. Or you can email scanned copies to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do not send us an original photograph. If you have no way of copying or scanning it, please bring it in and we would be happy to do so. We will only return copies if it is requested and they come with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
I look forward to learning even more about this amazing city and the people who call it home!
