This Saturday, May 10 the Whaley House will start a new tradition. We will hold our first annual Members Ice Cream Social. Traditionally we take time out of our Decembers to allow our generous members to be some of the first to see the House beautifully decorated for Christmas. The board members also work hard to provide members with quality food and refreshments. Now, don’t worry. Our Members Reception will still be taking place, but we decided to do a bit more for you! We’re giving you free ice cream!
This is also a time for our members to learn a bit more about our big, summer, off-site program, the Lumber City Base Ball Club (our vintage base ball team). Earlier that day, members are invited to attend our season home opener at 2:00 pm. The team will be playing the Wyandotte Stars. They play on a green field on the University of Michigan-Flint Campus near the William S. White Building and it costs nothing to watch. You can stay for the whole game or, if you just have a free 30 minutes in the middle of your Saturday you can stop for a few minutes. The game will begin at 2:00. Get ready to take a trip back in time as you see “ballists” catch line drives without gloves and hear “cranks” should “Huzzah!” from the sidelines! The games are always an enjoyable time!
If you aren’t yet a member of the Whaley House you can even purchase a membership at the Ice Cream Social, which starts at 5:30 (we accept cash and checks). We have a wide range of membership options available that begin at a mere $20 for an individual. If you bump it up to a family membership it’s only $30. With a membership you will receive:
- Complimentary Tours of the Whaley House
- Special Member Prices for Admission to Special Events
- The Quarterly Newsletter
- Sneak Previews of Certain Exhibits
- Entrance to Special Members Only Event
At the Whaley Historic House Museum we value the support our members have given over the years and continue to give today. The support provided by members allows us to create exciting programs, such as A House in Mourning, and helps us to complete restoration projects, like the linen room. Our members are a vital part of our organization and we at the Whaley House love thanking them for everything!
