A Break from the Winter Blues

I’m sick of this winter. I’m sure this is a fact that doesn’t actually require noting, but I just can’t keep it in any longer. I prefer to give Michigan winters the respect they deserve. I love the state and all of the crazy weather it brings with it, but last night’s snow has pushed me over some kind of edge. How about all of you? How are you handling this cold, snowy winter?

Despite this bleak mid-winter period we are all dealing with, the Whaley House is still busy! We’ve hosted rentals for baby showers and girl scout functions. We’ve had a group tour and made plans for a few more in the upcoming weeks. So, if you’re looking for a break from the plowing, shoveling, and shivering, bring your group to the Whaley House for a trip back in time. Hopefully, you’ll forget about the demands of winter.

Additionally, our second book club meeting is next week already! Can you believe that? I feel like I just had our first meeting. Come to the Whaley House on Thursday, February 27 at 6:30 to talk about The Beautiful Cigar Girl: Mary Rogers, Edgar Allan Poe and the Invention of Murder. We only ask for a donation to cover the cost of refreshments. Everyone had a great time last month, so even if you haven’t had time to read much of the book you’re sure to enjoy yourself.

Finally, final preparations and research is being completed for March’s women’s history display Using Domesticity: Women and Their Work in the Nineteenth Century. Learn about the lives of women in the 1800s and see some of the lovely things the Whaley women produced.

Hopefully you power through this winter blast and we see you at the Whaley House soon!
