This past weekend the Whaley Historic House Museum hosted Jan Reeves of Bath Savvy for the program “Lessons in Vintage Beauty and Wellness.” It was a fun Saturday filled with holistic skin care products. Jan uses all natural ingredients in her bath soaks, hand soaps, sugar scrubs, and a variety of other products. I would like to thank Jan for donating her time and sponsoring this event, as well as all of the volunteers that made the event possible. Without them, the Whaley House could not offer programs such as this.
Speaking of volunteers…
Would you like to get involved in preserving the Whaley Historic House Museum and Flint history for future generations? The House has a variety of opportunities for any interested volunteer to share his or her talents with the community and we want to show them to you on Thursday, June 13 at our Volunteer Expo! You can stop by any time between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and talk to volunteers and board members about a variety of tasks, including gardening, restoration/maintenance, antiques care, programming, visitor assistance, and rental hosting. There are many ongoing projects at the House that could use your help, but there are also a variety of one-time events, such as events like the vintage beauty program and house rentals with which we always need help. If you think volunteering in an historic environment is for you, then stop by!
And here’s a preview of a few upcoming programs we are working on:
July 2013: Firefly Walk
October 2013: A House in Mourning
November 2013: An Evening with Mr. Holmes
December 2013: Christmas at Whaley House
January 2014: A Murder Most Foul Book Club
